A Christmas Tale

By Hamid Douaihy

In the Country of Gold and Emeralds,

Lived a girl of Grace and Sweetness

In a poor unheated house, beating all odds,

To watch for her parents, lying in illness

She was content but with no Hope at all,

Until one night Stars envied her Heart,

And decided that when holidays will fall,

They'd lighten her world with Magical Art!

The night came, when smiles were drawn,

On people's faces but not on her own

And the Stars sent the girl some Light,

From high above and made her see Bright

Choosing from all the earthly Wishes one,

Above all that she wanted, including fun

So the girl sat down and gave a thought,

Of all the wealth she could have brought

But instead of Emeralds and Eternal Gold,

The girl chose longtime Health to unfold,

In her parents' heart and made them realize,

How Great is Content, how Useful and Wise!

Beauty
Beauty has always been the subject of wonder, fascination and charm; hard to define and harder to resist, beauty is the outmost enchantment that we are weak to stand firm and refuse to succumb to its magical appeal. It arouses our senses and feeds our eyes with its splendor, its soothing upshot and its stirring impact that unifies the division in our being.

Beauty is not exclusively the physical beauty, beauty is also kindness, it is found in all the virtues one possess, it is in the substance, it is the inner world that is mirrored through the exterior one; our shapes and forms are but accidental, our private jewels lingers underneath our skin color, our hairdo and our physical assets, we shine and glow from the inside so it can be showed on our faces.
Evil is not attractive, abuse is never appealing; self-centeredness and egoism are never alluring even if decorated with the most stunning ornaments.
Violence is ugly, manipulation is hideous, there is nothing pleasant about having a rotten heart and bad intentions, hypocrisy turns what is beautiful into what is simply repulsive.
On the other hand, a warm hug and a kind smile even from a very ugly person is pure splendor and gorgeousness, an act of love and respect vibes and resonates with beauty. Beauty is a way of being a full human, to rise above and beyond the pettiness of animal instincts and savage behavioral pattern.
We all lean towards what is fine-looking; we all like to look at what gives our eyes comfort and hunger to feel more alive and more divine. And what can possibly give us that leap of sublime and that dose of a higher existence than a beautiful heart? No physical beauty alone can subsist and take over the beauty of a well designed and full Mind.
Human beings have always longed to beautify the places they occupied, we want to make our homes more beautiful, our streets, our countries, we are the makers of beautiful things and the consumers of exquisiteness, how is it that we crave beauty so much and yet walk on the path that drifts us further away from achieving it?
Why don’t we get more concerned in beautifying our hearts, purifying our souls, detoxifying our systems from all the venom and toxics that infects our humanity? When we invest our efforts and good taste in having a good grace we will reach our compassion and we will be able to enjoy the external beauty and be transformed with it in a way to have a harmony from deep within and towards the outer space we inhabit.
Let us enjoy beauty wherever it may be found, in nature, in people, in all the art produced by men in an attempt to kill away all the suffering he endures throughout the history.

Beauty is, and always will remain our salvation, our gateway from all what pulls us down to obscurity and monstrosity; it will elevate and educate our senses so that we can climb our mounts of selfishness and any deteriorated attributes that make us less humans and more savages.

ARE YOU AN
OUTLAW ?

The art of dressing up, the gift of arousing the body and the mind, that fine taste that separate wearing clothes to highlighting the person who is wearing them, is called fashion, the craze of mixing and matching fabrics with patterns and colors to create another skin so we can cover our skin while loving to be more covered and less naked!

An elevated logic of sublime appeal in appearances, of looking with the hands of eyes, a hand that wants to feel the tissue that the eye looks at! But fashion is not style! Fashion is an ongoing motion towards change and inventing and re-inventing!

Style is giving fashion an identity, bringing it to its eternal to life; it is the infinity of a trendy persona, someone might dress to impress, someone else might dress to kill other’s show off! A woman wears to satisfy her need for extravagance while another woman wears to kill another woman’s arrogance; in the same manner our clothes can be messengers to our attitudes, it can express anger, anguish, harmony, contradiction, it can portray peace or convey war against ourselves or the world we inhabit.

Outfits can put into words to those muted screams in our souls, when in mourning we wear black, what is a bride without her gown, what is a priest or a religious figure without his uniform, a person in disguise, his distinctive trait would be lost if he does not dress the uniform that represents him in his attribute to the world who is seeing him! And while some abide by the fashion laws others have the courage to strike and make their own mode, these people are not afraid to defy everything that is up to the minute, they dare to bring back from the past and re ignite the flame underneath the ashes, they have a law of their own, they add a flavor to the right of being selective and daring. They stand on the edge and enjoy the view, they walk with confidence and they stand out from the crowds! There is no harm in fashion revolt so long as we always stay true to who we are behind any kind of clothing or covering!
